OUR WEEKEND // I'M SPOILED

Luke has been working all weekend and has to work the rest of the week. But even though he’s been away a lot of the week, he’s spoiled me just like he always does. :) On his last day off, he took me to the movies, and let me escape for a few hours to go thrifting and bargain hunting. He got me a new bathing suit when we were out grocery shopping, and on Saturday, he called me from work, telling me I’d never believe it, but he had gotten me a kitten. I thought he was joking, since he’s not overly fond of cats, but he came home on his lunch break with a little fluff ball of a cat! The boys helped me pick out her name today from a whole list of literary names…Daisy it is! (To be honest, I think it was because it was the only one they could pronounce.) ;)

It never ceases to amaze me how much he spoils me, and how much he loves me. :)

1// Shopping haul! I found a backpack for the trip, and managed to add a few splashes of neon into my wardrobe!

2// Ironman movies with the boys. We saw Ironman 3 with the family on Mother’s Day, so it prompted the boys to want to watch the older ones.

3// Daisy! She’s stayed curled up with me and follows me around the house and fluffs up at every shadow. It’s ridiculously cute.

OUR WEEKEND // RELAXED AND SIMPLE

We had a quiet Mother’s Day weekend, which is always nice. :) Luke worked Saturday so it wasn’t so much like the weekend. He did have to work Mother’s Day morning for a few hours, but he was able to come with us to see Ironman 3! We have a thing for movies…especially action and superhero movies! I’d rather see a good action movie than a chick flick most days. The boys keep asking everyone what their favorite part of the movie was, relaying the entire movie back to them, and acting it out.

The rest of the day we spent just relaxing, eating pizza with his family and watching more movies, and I started reading my Mother’s Day present, The Great Gatsby. I have a goal of reading lots of classic literature this year, and Luke knows books are always a good present. ;)

How was your Mother’s Day weekend?

FOODIE WEEKEND

So I just realized the last four photos I've posted on Instagram (follow me @jordanboesch!) are food photos. Sorry about that. (Not really.) Luke and I have this thing for food. Our favorite TV show (other than Duck Dynasty, of course) is Top Chef, and we watch the Food Network a lot. So I decided to show the food we had this weekend.

We (okay, I, but Luke picked it out) made Eggs Benedict the first time. We used a Bobby Flay recipe and I went through almost a dozen eggs trying to make the hollandaise. For the record, Bobby Flay, you cannot put eggs in a metal bowl over simmering water for FOUR MINUTES without them scrambling. Tyler Florence and the Internet to the rescue! The hollandaise had Cajun seasoning, with homemade black pepper biscuits. I'm going to perfect this and then I'll post the recipe!

In honor of the Kentucky Derby, we made Mint Juleps!

I made the chewy granola bars that Mary Beth posted here on Casey Leigh's blog! They are really reallllllly good. I used pumpkin seeds, walnuts and homemade coconut flakes. And I ate them for lunch today. No shame.

OUR WEEKEND // MOVIES AND RESTING

We kicked off the weekend by Luke getting off early on Friday, although I still had to grocery shop. But I ended that with a delicious panini from Panera Bread (it opened about a month ago and I am SO happy we have one here!) and a movie with the brothers

Saturday we went to see “42” with the family…what an inspiring and incredible story! With boys, sports are a big deal so this movie will probably be talked about for a while, but let me tell you, even though I’m not as into sports as they are, this movie would keep  anyone captivated. Jackie Robinson was a brave man, and the story of Mr. Ricky and his dedication to getting Robinson in MLB and their faith was incredible to see on the big screen. Definitely a “go and see” in my book!

Derik has been a bit sick this weekend, I’m guessing the stomach flu, so him and I stayed home on Sunday to rest and recover. I got in some snuggle time with my littlest boy so maybe there are some advantages to being sick. Jackson and Luke went to church and then to lunch afterwards, where Jackson talked Luke’s head off about the movie, and why he didn’t like certain foods, and planning where he wanted to go the next time Derik is sick. He did bring Derik and me each a cookie though. ;)

The other thing I managed to get done was upload all the prints I’ve made to my Etsy shop! Now I’m all caught up, and just need to figure out the best way to keep things going and the best way to list custom work, like blog headers. If you’ve got any suggestions for stuff you’d like to see, let me know!

Our Weekend

This weekend I had to get used to having Luke working again. Staples has done some restructuring, resulting in less help for the same jobs, and he’ll be working a lot more weekends. But even though we were missing him, the boys and I still had our fair share of fun.

I did an impromptu photo shoot with the boys, and they are in that hilarious cheesy face phase. It’s hard to get a straight face out of them, so I just went with it and in between the semi-straight faces they were busting up with laughter. Those are the moments I live for as a photographer, and as a mum!

I made one of our favorites for dinner, chicken with Moroccan spices, couscous and homemade naan bread. The chicken is spicy with a hit of cinnamon and lemon, the flatbread to scoop up the juices and lightly sautéed broccoli for greens, more lemon on top. So good!

And in my spare time, I drew up some new prints for my Etsy shop. Click on the button in the sidebar to check them out! I love this verse from Hebrews, and I’m adding more Bible verses to the shop. If you have one in particular you’d like to see, let me know. I also have a very special surprise coming soon…it involves the words “give” and “away” so… :)
