Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill Cookbook

Luke bought me Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill Cookbook for Christmas after we went to his restaurant in Las Vegas in November. Both of us agreed that it was the best meal we'd ever eaten, hands down, and we had high hopes for his cookbook. We definitely weren't disappointed.

Last Tuesday we had a "Bobby Flay day" and made his dishes for breakfast and dinner. For breakfast, we made his Southwest Homefries and his Mango-Glazed Bacon, along with pancakes and fried eggs and both were a hit. The homefries were spicy and cooked just right, and the bacon was literally like candy, in a really good way. He said it was inspired by dipping his bacon in maple syrup as a child, and I can see how it works.

For dinner we made Coffee-Rubbed Steak and Cilantro Pesto Mashed Potatoes. Yes, the mashed potatoes ARE green (a kind of grown-up green eggs & ham, eh?). But they are literally the BEST mashed potatoes EVER! The steaks turned out fairly well too, except I undercooked them at first and had to put them back on, and had the heat up too high (so they were a bit burnt). But the sauce that goes along with them, a Mushroom Ancho Sauce, was divine.

To make a long story short, Bobby Flay, we love you forever.
