My New Photography Toy...

...didn't cost a thing! I love playing with new techniques, and remembered seeing someone [sometime somewhere] make a little contraption like this for their lens.

Basically it's just a piece of black heavy paper (something like cardstock or construction paper works fine) with a small hole cut out of the center. I used my lens cap to trace around and then just did my own thing in the center. Start small with the center hole, then take a test picture and see if you need to enlarge the hole. I've seen people tape these in place over their lenses, but it actually works just fine to hold it in place (that way you can pull it off so you can get a "normal" shot). Get your camera focussed first (if you have an SLR/DSLR, set the focus setting on "manual" and focus by hand) and then place it over your lens.

So what does this little paper contraption do? It does this!

It adds a vignette around the edge of the photo, similar to Holga cameras, which if I try film again I'll definitely be looking into trying one of these!

P.S. I've had people ask me photography questions before and wondered if any of you would like it if I posted links/tutorials for different techniques I use from time to time. Leave a comment if it's something you'd be interested in! Also, we'll be gone for about a week, possibly with no internet...see you all when we get back!

Sure, that'd be fun! Most of what I've learned has been through books and things like this. I love it when people how they got their pictures: camera settings, techniques, etc.
