Children...Bad for the Planet???

The Austrailian recently published an article making the announcement that children are "bad for the planet."

Having large families should be frowned upon as an environmental misdemeanour in the same way as frequent long-haul flights, driving a big car and failing to reuse plastic bags, says a report to be published today by a green think tank.

Huh?!

The article cites reducing carbon dioxide output by having less children, as well as population increase. Supposedly by 2050, our world will increase from 2.5 billion people to 9.2 billion people. Did they take into account the death rate (also see here)? The amount of disease that will probably increase by 2050?

Somehow, "rich countries should be the most concerned about family size as their children have higher per capita carbon dioxide emissions." What in the world is that supposed to mean? Children in less rich countries don't breathe as much?

You know, if all the green people follow this thinking, we'll soon outnumber them. You can read the rest of the article here.

Children of wealthier countries are at least presumably more likely to buy and drive cars, for example, fly on airplanes, wear clothing manufactured in non-green ways or synthetic fabrics, and to consume petroleum products in general.
